How much do you pay for your forum/site ?

Well I am partial for SMF just because I am used to the coding. In general though I don't think it is worth it anymore with the advertising market. Many sites have closed down due to cost/not making money. I would go the route of just paid plans.
You also have to deal with people who just use mobile apps... which is the case nowadays and reddit the winner of the forum wars. Proboards sold out and canclled v6, tapatalk forum loosing steam on the decline.

But, I have built multi hosting systems for wordpress (before they had wordpress.com), joomla, flarum, vanillabb, fluxbb.
Flarum I gave up since they didn't want me to use flarum in the url

IPS is the forum software that I use and run and as we all know that it's not cheap. When starting it's always going to cost upfront more so than down the road.

  • Around $350 for IPS software to begin with (that's self-hosting)
  • Shared-hosting, buying more ends up cheaper. 3-years $590
  • Domains, I have two and so that's $45 a year
  • IPS licence comes to $270 a year
  • Paid-based addons as of 2023, around $140 to $180 a year
  • For all the addons that I used to use and spent or used to renew you looking at another $350
Just looking at around $2500 to £3000 - But that's what I can think of.. there are more...
