What are some ways to go about it? Well, one way is to join a program where you get a cut from the You Tube ads and another way is by directing traffic to your website or Patreon page.

OK, who has tried this stuff? What were the results? What were challenges and how did you overcome?

It is not uncommon for YouTube creators to use content from social media platforms such as Reddit and Twitter as inspiration for their videos. However, it is important to be aware of the intellectual property rights of others when using such content and to follow YouTube's policies on monetization. 2023 is not easy nowadays by any means and so most people look outside of the box to get traffic.

As of now, YouTube’s Partner Program Policies state that content creators can monetize their videos if they meet the program’s eligibility requirements and adhere to the platform’s guidelines, which includes following copyright laws and not uploading content that violates other platform’s terms of service.

One challenge is getting ranked and one way to do that is by making longer videos.

Makin longer videos is not the answer, making videos that are 1 hour long people will get bored and click off.
This doesn't appear to stop people like James Somerton who was - until recently - making a pretty good living out of multi-hour video essays, though mostly on Patreon rather than YT itself. (What did stop James Somerton, however, was a 4 hour video essay that spent about 2 hours pointing out the plagiarism in Somerton's video essays.)
