How do you manage ads per page?

When I use ads for a forum, I tend to use the auto-ad feature and set it to show around 4 ads per page. I feel that is enough and is not too over the top for those who do not use an ad-blocker.
I myself dislike being on a site that has way too many ads so I would never give that experience to someone else on my site.
