Absolutely no contest for me. IPB is so bloated and 'forumy' it's not worth my attention. Not to mention the price. XF looks modern, is easy to use, really love it.
XenForo all the way. It is brilliant and IPB is just so plain and boring.. I really don't like joining IPB forum.
Sorry for the late reply.... Honestly, I just want a good store mod that enables you to 1. gain point as you post 2. donate points to other members 3. ability to create banks where members can deposit points into checking/savings 4. Ability to get credit cards, loans, and welfare I run a site geared towards pre-teens/teens/young adults and this is a fun thing that we have on IPB called Ipbeconomy that i would love to see. if i got this, Xenforo would be perfect
I was starting to like XenForo when I wasn't using it as actively over the last couple of months but in the past week I've used it again and it's put me off it due to several bugs and things it lacks or does that annoy me. IPB takes the lead back!
XenForo is still relatively new, so it does lack some thing's. However it has been quite a while since they have had an update of any kind. What thing's does it 'lack' in your opinion?
It lacks a decent attachment system, a decent mobile theme and last time I checked it didn't have a proper downloads system. Is there an official subscription addon? I find the jQuery implementation hasn't been done very well for basic things such as posting replies and reporting posts. The number of times I've found myself posting a reply 4 times for some reason and then going to report it and it saying server issue has made me stop trying to sort it out by reporting it and just leaving it for someone else to find. It just feels like it's not been in development for long enough - if you're an active admin who can spent 5 hours/day you'll be able to help find bugs and report them to sort this out but I wouldn't have that luxury so would probably be stuck with bugs that I'd never found and that worries me. Of course this isn't exclusive to XenForo but more likely due to it's age. I was thinking it was getting nearer to being as good as IPB but I've realised it's still got such a long way to go. So has IPB though - give me a god damn LinkedIn integration!
XenForo does have a subscription/membership feature built in, which is nice. A mobile theme could be arranged I'm sure, but there is a plugin to allow for one, though it's not that great. I've never really had an issue posting, but I've gotten JSON errors occasionally which isn't too big of a deal. IPB is way more advanced, yes but personally it seems bulky and slow. That's my opinion though. As for LinkedIn, I don't foresee any software integrating it as a core feature anytime soon as it's not really a social network like Twitter or Facebook, it's more business type things. I'm sure you could get a plugin from someone however.
I personally think IPB is too slow, chunky and depressing too. I have held several licenses in the past and I always want to get rid of them soon after. I have never sold any of my xenforo licenses and never wanted to, It's just about the only software I feel comfortable with. Everybody is going to have their own opinion on what is the best software out there but IMO its XenForo, I'm not saying IPB isn't good - It is, I love the way they have advanced over the years but I can't help but think they sorta looked at xenforo to see what to include in their own product seeing the way 3.2 has shaped out. no disrespect to IPB.. It's a great product and if XF was not around that would be my second choice.
I tried a demo of Xenforo recently and I would say I am happy for what I am paying. As said by someone, there is a lot of room for improvement. What about their migration support?
i didnt have any issues using xenforo when i had it. But i am sure they will help you if you need it as well as the community will help. I actually just switched back to IPB last weekend and I am MILES better happy and I plan to sell my XF license for about 50-60 bucks. But their support is pretty decent at XF so if you move over, just ask
XenForo looks to be on a major downslide. Half of the 'fanbase' has dissolved and the other half are attacking eachother on a daily basis. I like the software and was going to purchase it that was until the developers took a vow of silence and everyone started a civil war on the forums that does not seem to be coming to an end anytime soon.
IPB may not have the FLASH of a xenforo forum but it really is more complete and an awesome software you should give it a look if you haven't already.
(Excuse me if what I am saying is incorrect I am just going by what I've read xD) Whilst I agree that the fanbase of XF is dissolving due to the current troubles over there legally, I have to still say that the actual people using XF is still quite large. A number of people I talk too still prefer XF to IPB/VB and the rest despite the current troubles. Obviously, some big people have left the XF community which will probably stall it even more and I agree that the devs do need to make some kind of announcement to annul all the commotion but maybe they are barred from doing so legally, who knows. Development is continuing though (The latest bug release, its not 1.2 but hey ) and obviously th main devs need to be shown to be active for the 'programmers' to come over and make scripts and whatnot to further the companny and the software itself. Community wise, it is on a downfall, software usage wide, I wouldn't say is on a downfall. Thats my two cents though . On-topic though, Xenforo anyday! I like IPB but nothing beats XF for me personally.
But what possibly could Legally bar them from discussing their OWN SOFTWARE to their customers? I can understand not being able to discuss the case but not their software.
Maybe it is just better for them to not say anything rather than say something and have people asking more questions. Who knows what is going on properly behind the scenes court wise except for them . (I'm no law expert ) I see what you mean though. Even a small announcement would be nice! I know the people over there seemed to lighten up when (Kier i think) was fixing bugs like no other a few weeks ago. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see unfortunately.
I'm going to have to say XenForo, I just absolutely love the forum software and find most forums what use it very appealing to me, not a big fan of IPB never have been really, but IPB is still a decent software just I prefer XF.
