So I've been going back and forth with @Silent about this and would like the communities input; What do you think is the better software, XenForo or IPB? Put you personal preferences aside and look at the default features in each of them.
XenForo for sure. Their theme is not the greatest, however what it offers makes up for it. It's the only software that is up to date with web technologies such as jquery an JavaScript. Plus it's lightweight and has a lot of room to improve since its only on version 1.0.3(or 4) officially.
Design I would say IPB but everything else Xenforo. I like the design better for IPB, it seems more modern like. But if you put vBulletin in it then I would say vBulletin.
XenForo for sure, it's faster and I can't stand the redirects on IPB as to me they are slower than the ones on phpBB3! I agree that the XenForo default theme is not as good as IPB's but like everyone else XenForo makes it up with the latest web technology and is very light weight
I have to say XenForo has my heart right now, IPB is too bulky. http://www.adminforums.org/threads/why-i-prefer-xenforo-to-all-the-rest.27363/ To save me explaining my reasons, here is a topic I made a few days ago explaining why I think XenForo is the best forum software on the market at this moment in time.
I love that xenforo has strayed away from the standard forum approach that most forum software share in common. I would choose xenforo.
Hmm thanks guys. I have found a pretty nice free XenForo theme and compared to the ones for IPB, it is by far better then most of the premium IPB themes. If I do go with XF, I will need a lot of help with the customizing of it.
XenForo and IPB are pretty evenly matched as forum softwares. The jQuery on XenForo pisses me off personally, it doesn't work properly or nicely without it. The killer though is addons/plugins. You just cannot get a decent download plugin for XenForo and it's missing many more. Okay you have to pay lots to use the IPB download thing, especially if you want to implement paid downloads, but it's available and so are many more addons. If you don't need plugins then you decide whether you like the jQuery or not. And you may be a little more likely to come across bugs in XenForo so if it's a large corporation that really does need the best security you may want to wait a year or 6 months for XenForo to find lots more of those bugs.
This actually helped me alot Thanks Patrick for asking the question.I'm going to paid software very soon and was torn between IPB and XF.Since I read all the replies XF is going to be it.
Yepp xF is just amazing! it's the most user friendly piece of php script alive! (I dont know much about other scripts since im a forum addict! ).
I love Xenforo's software. It is just fun and nice to use! However, it is lacking a few modifications i really need which is sort of disappointing when you don't know if they will ever come out or when.
