I agree with dojo here.. plan simple custom theme should work with light color combination.

Dojo was talking about our mybb theme. Our forums are now on xenforo with a premium theme from audentio!
Its been long cine we changed to XenForo from MyBB.

Exactly as said above. You can also change the theme with the style changer
