WebGuruBB - A new Webmaster Forum

Hello there! We are WebGuru, an up and coming new website which is dedicated to helping people in the webmaster world. You may just think that we are another website that has popped up and will shut down promptly but we assure you we are not! As a website built on the foundations of helping others and working as a team, the WebGuru team are committed to staying open for a very long time to ensure that the new generation of Webmasters have the right help they need to make their journey.

We are not like other forums though, we do not pretend to have all the knowledge and nor do we force what we do know upon you whilst acting like we are certified geniuses. People come to our website to learn, and we learn from them.

DESIGN

1. logo has a weird green color that's not repeated over the site. You need to have a consistent color theme
2. the layout is dark. Dated and difficult for the eyes. Go with something light and modern.
3. fluid layout: for someone like me (with a 1600 pixels wide screen) reading your forums is hard.

CONTENT

1. welcome message: put something like this there so that I, your visitor, can see in 2 seconds what your forum is about and be enticed to join
2. lack of topics: start new topics in all those categories, then get people to register. No one likes an empty forums and it's been proven people respond easier than starting out topics on their own.

Design:
1. Regarding the logo, we are trying to design another logo!
2. Layout - Regarding that, I guess everyone will have their own opinion. If majority has this same feedback, we will change the theme. I mean for some people its white/lite background that hurt their eyes!
3. Fluid Layout: I too have a 1600 widescreen resolution. Mine has no problem. If you dont mind can you show me some screenshot.

Prefer some lighter color than red for webmaster forums. It is my advice

Btw Advertising slot , it annoys as the forum is brand new.

I have used a dark layout 10 years ago (they're elegant, that's for sure) and had people complain about it. Even now, if I look at such a site for more than 2 minutes my eyes hurt. So it's a good idea to switch to black on white text than white on black. It's a reason we don't have black books

I will remove the advertising slot right now. Never really gave it a thought. Thanks for pointing it out! Regarding the colors I guess we have to look for a new theme. And btw if you are talking about the red color, you can change it to green and blue on the right side panel.

Don't know what's with your host, but you can slap them from my part . The site took 2 minutes to load. That's unacceptable.

- BETTER theme than before, that's for sure.
- please for the love of god 'fix' your layout. Set it to 980 pixels wide (optimum IMO) and don't kill my eyes with a layout that spans 1600 pixels (as my laptop's display spans). That's FOR ALL OTHER FORUM ADMINS here who have liquid layouts. Unless it's something so smart and cool, please use a fixed setting. It's IMPOSSIBLE to read anything when the text goes from side to side on over 1600 pixels or more (some have even bigger screen resolutions.
- the logo and header area have absolutely nothing to do with your theme. Your colours in the forum category titles are of different hues and it looks 'displaced'. I love the blues you have on the category titles, please adjust that ugly blue in the header and copy these colours. Your login section is also out of place. You have 3 different hue 'styles' that really don't go well together.
- the logo is impossible to see fom that blue. You need to make it white and add a 1 pixel shadow on it at least to look more '3D'.

Right now I don't feel like joining and it's a pity since 1. I really appreciate your activity on my forums and would love to reciprocate and 2. I know how much work you put into this and how much you're trying to promote.

You need to take care of 2 things: hosting and the design elements I mentioned. Again, with the risk of being seen as a witch, you need to have a super professionally looking site in this niche. Nothing else is acceptable. See sitepoint.com for instance and how professional that looks

Well I would say people like you are the ones who helps people like me by giving good suggestions and all.

I must be seeing the old forum (it's unchanged). It must be the propagation not yet finished.

Thank you for being such a man with this and not taking it personally. It's true, I want to help you with my ideas. My job is as a web designer, have done this for 10 years and, while pretty picky and 'witchy' sometimes, I do know my domain a little.

Will come with some more ideas soon and try to join your community so that I can get a first hand view of what's going on
