What is your oppinion of forum software company's who use 'BB' at the end of their names/domains? Not open source or free, paid company's such as IPS for example.

Would you use the software if it had BB appended to it?
  2. Imo it don't really both me but i think it is quite bad and makes the board look cheap and ugly

As long as the software is good then I don't really care to be honest.
  4. IATQOR Yes.

I don't really see it as a problem and yeah as long as the forum software is good then I don't realy care :X3:

Does it even matter? An online forum is somewhat the electronic version of a real life bulletin board so the BB at the end isn't that inappropriate. I'd take functionality over name any day.

It's kinda getting old, but I don't mind it because a name doesn't really matter.

As long as it doesn't make the name stupid I don't mind.

I have seen one recently called MikeBB or something :p

The person who started making it is either rather vain or lacking innovative branding ideas.

    Same here :)
I think the name should impact you for all of like..one second at the most. Look at Xenforo! What a weird name! However, their success is built off their product, not their name(per-say). If you judge a software that negatively for their name, you really have some flawed reasoning ;)

Yes but you hinted that the name does potentially help their success slightly. That's because it's memorable and original. I guess using bb isn't original.
  12. Darthmaul Uncle Darth

Not entirely, but it's quite easy to remember in it's initial form like: TBB, XBB, ABB, etc. ;)

Well something with a stupid name isnt going to get very far. Things like mybb and phpbb etc are okay but the stupid ones like mikebb and others seem to much of a joke for me to take seriously.
  14. Darthmaul Uncle Darth

Why? If your name was mike and you were the sole developer, wouldn't you name it after yourself? It's just like scientists naming an element or something after themselves and then giving it some stupid suffix :p

But they are not trying to sell or get people to invest time and money into developing their element :p Would you really look at IPB the same if it was called matthewbb or xenforo if it were called kierboards?
  16. Clarkie AF Power User

    It's a little vain though.

I don't use anything with bb in the name, I started about six years ago or so with phpbb they disappointed me so much i vowed to stay clear of them and have never used something with BB in the name since - it looks cheap.

I'm happy with IPB, so I would say no based on that criteria. I don't really care what it's called, so long as the software is complete, has security, and works, I'd be happy to at least test it out.

I know, but being the sole developer should grant you that much ;)
Yep! As long as it was the same software!
  20. Clarkie AF Power User

You may, but you'd probably not find it as other people wouldn't so it'd struggle to get the same publicity. Possibly. Maybe. I'm doing a lot of guessing and assuming here. :p
