Should members have the right to delete their post?

Oh noes!

You need 20 posts to be able to download resources, post links and other things. Read more...

No. Nor should they edit after a while. Had some 'drama queens' with a lot of time on their hands edit all their posts with 'n/a' when they didn't like something in the forums. That taught me a lesson. You get 30 minutes to edit a post, then I edit it. You NEVER have access to delete your posts.

Their post, yes, but only soft delete ^^

No deleting anything else though like threads :p

I do, however I put a time limit on how long they have to do so. Normally 10-15 minutes which enough time to delete it before someone replies, it's more than enough actually. I would never allow it for threads though, posts only.

This is coming from a member's point of view.

I personally like to delete my posts, in case I may have said something wrong that might unintentionally insult someone or if I accidentaly posted something someone already said. If I can't delete my post, and someone takes it as an insult, that member may leave completely, which all could have been avoided if I could delete my posts.
  5. No way! if they have rights to delete a post so what moderator can do?

I use a magic tool called undo delete so I would never have the, member goes on a rampage problem.

I wouldn't, no. The reason being is because if they ever get the arse with you, the last thing you want is them going through all their posts and deleting them!

    I would go with no.
If someone can delete the post at any given moment, it can make any discussion pointless.

Everyone should stand behind what they write.

I don't usually allow my members to delete posts because it doesn't really do much good to the forum. If they need it deleted for any reason, they can use the report button and then the staff will have the decision on what will happen to the thread. Having a delete button for normal members is like giving them admin rights, it could simply be abused.

I wouldn't allow it either, It opens you up to abuse and spam.
  11. I dont allow users to delete or edit their posts. If they need something changed they can email the moderator to make that change for them.

They should, but it's should go throught admins and admins should press accept deleting or decline deleting i guess :)

We allow our members to soft delete threads and posts so that all staff members can see what has been deleted and if needs be ask the member in question why the post was deleted. If in some cases the post was deleted for no apparent reason or to just cause trouble we will restore the deleted post and deal with the member in question.
  14. ShadyX Who else?

No, we don't allow threads or posts to be deleted by members. Mod's and Admins are the only people with the power to delete posts.

No. I never understood why administrators let them. I always revoke that privilege. All content is, in my opinion, permanent. They shouldn't be able to remove it.
