If you could make a prediction do you see phpBB 4 being popular or do you see a lot of old users that have been using them for years leave the software for something different?
If they fix the problem where how hard modifications are to install and make the mod system similar to like MyBB or Xenforo. Then they'll get alot more users and alot more popular. I would switch from a MyBB fan to a phpBB if that happen. lol
If they seriously step up their game, they may become the top free software. Although I think I will be dead at the rate they release things, so phpbb4 I assume is years away.
I think they should make it easier to install modifications. But it isn't a problem. I install modifications all the time and it doesn't bother me. I don't like any other free forum providers. To me phpBB is the top free forum software to date. So for me, I think they should make more default stuff. Like chat rooms, reputation system, etc. Things like that.
I think 3.1 will be a lot better more things will be added as default and i believe the MOD system will be like myBB. phpBB 4 will be like 5 to 10 years away
At the rate that phpBB development is going, I think we won't be seeing it for at least another 5-10 years, as @Subz has said
I won't be holding my breath waiting for this tbh. I would rather use something that is good right now.
Put it this way I will be old and gray before the first beta is out, we are talking 5 years before we ever see this at least.
AutoMod is good for phpbb3, But they need to change it to where all is performed by the software, not you.
It's quite far away, we've all said that, hopefully it's good though, and not toooooooooooooooooooo far away.
