I am in need of some logos for my small business. I am being throw exuberant quotes from the designers. I am just trying to figure out a way to create simple logos free of cost?

It really depends on what your standards are. I will tell you now that no professional designer is going to do it for free. Also, you said this is a business? Don't you have a budget for these kinds of things? I would say that you should probably teach yourself Photoshop or fork over some money to a designer.
If you really want to do it for free, you can go onto various different forums and see if you can request a logo although, I think it would be much more fulfilling if you were to download a program like GIMP and learn yourself. Nothing is better than designing your own logo in my opinion.
Not sure if it would be any good for you but I used to use cooltext.com for free graphics and such when I needed them and was unable to make themselves or was strapped for cash. It is a pretty great site to use and very easy to use aswell and can be done within minutes and I am pretty sure from what I remember they do not have any kind of copyright on their images either.
Watch YouTube tutorials for better result, it's free eventually i learn alot graphic skills from there...
