Oh noes!

You need 20 posts to be able to download resources, post links and other things. Read more...

How many sites do you think is enough to own and how many is too many?
  2. ShadyX Who else?

It really depends if you have the time for them, Me personally I can't own lots of forums because of the crazy amount of time needed. I have lots of non-forum sites though that offer free services like Link Shortening, Image Hosting, Free Backlinks, Social Exchanging. They take up minimal time after the initial designing/developing of it.

Gotta agree with shady here. Forum owning takes a ton of time, and I own 1 and I am saying that. As for the static sites, I believe it's fine to own a bunch of them, because like shady said it's minimal effort once it's open.

It's a bit complicated for me. I run a web design site, then an actual blog and am starting to create a forum. But I do not put my full time in the blog and the web design site just has the same content all the time.

Then I have a couple of blogs/sites I manage for my clients.

Well, I sort of manage a network of sites in a way, albeit a very small network. I manage a forum, a blog and a directory with the help of my other co-admin of course. We seem to manage just fine because it is the two of us but If I was on my own, I would only ever take one project on at a time. I am a great believer in focusing your energy into one project as opposed to many projects at once. I believe it allows me to put my all into that one project and make it awesome before moving onto the next venture.

I would say it depends on how interested you would be in running more than one and also whether you have the time for them. At this current moment in time I am only running a forum in which I have other staff that help out with the running and I find that at the moment that is all I have time for :) I would love to maybe run a blog or another forum on something I really enjoy but until I have the time I am not going to attempt as I worry that it may end up just being left.

You can never have too many. I know an admin who runs 30 odd sites at a time just to see which one kicks off, and then focus on the ones that do well. It's next to impossible to have good success, particularly in internet marketing, with just one website. A good 30 will guarantee you at least some success in different niches.

no real amount in my opinion. Well first it depends on the user itself. If you want a successful site then maybe you have to just work with one. If you know what you are doing then you can do many as high as moon if you like. I know people that have networks of forums with dozens of popular forums. They are all so popular that when a new one opens, everyone runs to that forum to help out as well.

The site can also be something like a blog where you blog for fun. You don't really care how popular it is but you just like blogging. You can do many of those if you like. But I wouldn't really want to personally blog for fun myself if it is more than one blog. Seems like a little too much work.

But as ShadyX mentioned, you can have any amount as well depending on the type of site.

Like shadyx said it totally depends on the types of the websites you own.
For forums the amount of time you have to dedicate it somewhat more compared to other websites. But if you own services such as urlshortening, image gallery, fileupload etc, you won't have to spend that much time and it doesn't hurt to have a few of them. The number of websites is actually depends on the time you may have to dedicate for each of these websites.

have them if you can handle them

Depends. What sites do we talk about? How much time do you have to work on them? For some one site is already too much, others can run 5-10 sites with no problems. Back in the day I had 40 active sites, but didn't have to 'waste' time working, since I was a radio DJ, so the pay was good and I had to work 3 hours/day (and had internet access there too, so that I could so some posting on my forums for instance) :)

I keep it to a rather low amount if the said sites are going to take up a good chunk of my time. Smaller sites I can deal with easily but they would see less time from me managing them.

As much as you can handle ;) I run about 10 forums comfortably, when I first started (15 years ago) I run about 50 at one time, the cost creep up on me and it was like a hangover after a big night of drinking moon shine :p

Is all about how much you can handle at one time and how much you can afford ;)
  14. I'd rather own forty blogs than two forums. As the amount of time that goes into a blog is minimal by comparison to what's needed for a forum. The time commitment for a forum is insane. For a very long time, I was putting more time every day into forum management, community building than a regular full time job. And, no money coming from it either. With a blog, all i have to do is make posts, or set to publish later (for times when i want constant content) and do occasional backlinking and usually get very good traffic. I don't need members for a blog, just readers who will click on ads. Though forums depend on actual members commenting/posting.

Depends on how much time you have and if you can dedicate yourself to them. If you can give each site equal time and make each site work then you can have as many as you want.
  16. I don't have enough time to spend on other sites, well three sites are enough...
  17. Druf Member

I guess it's to you to decide how many sites are enough, i would say 2 for me :)
  18. SarunasLTU Member

I suppose it depends on how big forum is :)

1 dedication and patient is enough and have the mood of working on it than getting bored of it.

I would love to own a ton of sites! I have so many ideas and so many sites I'd love to create.

Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time for that. Nor do I have the funds to support doing something like that when I don't make any money off of my current sites.

So in that sense, I can really only handle about 2 at a time. I have juggled more than that in the past, but at least one site always seems to suffer while I focus on a different one.
