It may seem like a daft question, but I have never known how to get advertisers on my blog/forum.

I have five slots available of various sizes, so how do I get adverts for them ?

If you cant get advertisers then you can use cpm or cpc network. BTW have you tried BSA ads?

I am a complete novice, I have no idea what that is LOL

    1. Get to the best known ad-networks: google adsense, yahoo publisher, text-link-ads, linkworth, buysellads, chitika etc. Get an account and see if you get advertisers.
    2. Open a thread in webmaster/admin forums and announce the ad position availability

http://buysellads.com That's how I hope to sell adspace but I haven't been accepted yet :(

I have been waiting for 2 months about. Still no reply from buysellads :/

Ah I had that problem, it turns out it didn't send properly so try sending it again :)

Buysellads is quite difficult to get accepted into but once one of your sites has been accepted then most other sites you submit usually get approved. I started off by getting AF accepted, now I have over 10 sites using BSA :)

Forum Assist still hasn't been accepted but I'm thinking of submitting it again after the revamp, they do take potential into consideration don't they?

Learning a lot of new things here, thank you guys! Has anyone had any luck with convincing the local vendors for ads on your site?

Believe it worked for me, I've a few vendors putting up their products for sale in my forum as well as bought ad space :)

Would that work for any type of forum or just a "local" forum for your area? :)

It really depends on the forum niche, for example, my forum's niche has a lot to do with travel and tourism, so I let local agents advertise and sell their services as well as buy ad space..

I still haven't applied to BSA, but from expirience of others, it's really good.

Shady, do you have any tips on how to get accepted there :D?

The only way to get accepted is to have good amount of traffic and your forum niche should cover the ad categories they have. I applied for mine and it got rejected..
