Do you choose people you know well, do you get to know them better first? What is your way of hiring staff?
I get to know them first on my forum and other forums then I judge whether they would be right for the job, we sometimes recruit using applications posted as an announcement but I do the same thing with applicants. I look around and see what they are like, 2 out of our 3 moderators have been with us over a year now ( Juice had a few months break ) .
Usually, I recruit from applications that my staff team helps me go through. I usually have some snooping done to see how that person is as a staff member, etc, but I honestly like giving people chances, especially if they are willing to do service team work As for being on this team, shady(I think) got to know me as a member first, and when I sent in my app I think he really already knew I would be a good candidate I've been here for a year?!
Respect the veteran! I would usually though look around other forums and see what the person is all about. I like to get to know people I work with because obviously, you'll need to work and communicate with them (Well, I hope you would!) so I like to see if they are friendly, chatty and such but of course, I would be willing to give someone a chance if they had the right skill set and looks for my forum. Nothing wrong with giving people a chance.
