How big does a forum need to be before you take it seriously?

Oh noes!

You need 20 posts to be able to download resources, post links and other things. Read more...

Alot of people don't take small forums seriously because they seem too new. So how active or big does a forum have to be before you take it seriously?

I would say, for me to really want to join a forum, it needs to have at least 5 very active posters, at least 10,000 posts, and around 20 members who are somewhat active.

20 members cannot sustain 10K posts, you've got your math wrong :D

A forum that's got 10K posts should have at least ~200/300 members. And that's not something happening overnight either.

Probably about around 20 or 30 i'd start taking it seriously:)

I can start taking a forum seriously when the admin, and members, are all having fun and posting regularly. Otherwise it's awkward and only a few people post...

I take them seriously if they take it seriously, If I see that the forum is doing well then I will hop aboard regardless of its size ;)

My forum is only 232 members and about 20-30 regular active members and we are 26, 634 posts and counting

I agree with alfie, I am serious about the forum from the begining, if your not, you'll get yourself nowhere.

You must not take many forums seriously....

This is kind of an awkward question. I always take a forum seriously. As long as it has good content and people are posting, that's all that matters to me really.

Not necessarily. What if a forum wasn't very successful then took off after so many years? Extenditude has about 3 active members and over 11,000 posts. It's never taken off - the few successful spells didn't last long - but if it took off tomorrow it wouldn't get 200 active posters overnight but might get up to 20 in a couple of weeks. Would you not take it seriously it because of the spell it had beforehand?

I don't think only a size matters. If that's the only thing, by that logic, no forum would ever expand. :D No one would write in a new forum and stuff like that. :D

By the sound of half these people it'll be impossible for some forums to be taken seriously lol. How do you get to that point of so many posts? I've been dragging friends in but they have lives and can't post as often and I have problems getting anyone else to join the forum.

it's an inviting forum for me if I see the moderators/admin interacting/posting/replying to member's threads. so i take the forum not really seriously...more like enjoying the forum if I see these admins/mods active.
