Google announced a new update to it's algorithm recently that most people deem worse than Panda and that is Google penguin. It targets people who use low quality SEO services to build links and other types of web spam. IMO it has had the opposite effect and has been ranking spam websites HIGHER than actual quality websites. What are your feelings on the recent update? Have you been effected by it?
This has designed a common anxiety among all whether it is safe to use any SEO techniques again? Now I concentrate the phrase “THOUGHT”. They just THOUGHT that they were doing bright hat SEO. More than 50 percent of all the SEO works done these days across the earth is contracted to freelance workers and beginner SEO companies who does not understand the search website optimization methods but just concentrate on building as many anchor-text hyperlinks as possible.
This is the first release of the penguin, may be they will fix or improve it in future based on the user's feedback.
They seem to have done something to fix it. Though I still see some confusion around the web about it.
What is the whole thing about? Can you someone explain it with a little clarity or point me to a place where I can find a good read about this?
I also think that Panda is evolving and this is something it will continue to do at least in the near future.
A lot of spammers I know thought the same thing originally and spammed forums with rumors that the Penguin updates were helping them rank higher. But within about a month, many of the sites that had used spam techniques to get to the top were out of top rankings and/or shutting down. It takes time for any new algorithm to kick in. But eventually Google will have it's way and penalize spam linkers. Also, just so you know, Penguin is not a true penalty. It just discounts the value of spam backlinks. So for instance, if you used spam software to get 100,000 spam backlinks and Google only deemed that 2000 of those links were relevant to your site, then you'd still get credit for the 2000 but the others would not count. So essentially, if you got your site to the top of search engines based on the 98,000 spam links then the effect would be undone and your site would be buried on page 600 of search results for your chosen keyword.
Hey guys, Google penguin is the latest updated algorithm of google, which is used to prevent spamming. Thanks and regards Smith Jones
Hello everybody Google penguin update includes keyword stuffing, web spamming and over optimization. So if you did in your site the surely your site get low ranking and its search visibility from first page to get decreased. It happens with so many sites and all get discussed their effects because of over optimization. So you should be careful during optimization of your site. Thanks for sharing Richard Smith
Ha at last.... I've been saying this update will kick in for months, and everyone has been saying I don't know what I'm talking about. The clear advice from Google is DON'T USE LINK FARMS you will get penalised.
The clear advice from Google is to not try to cheat the system by using blackhat techniques, period. That includes anything remotely blackhat. I still think Penguin is stupid, You can still get the same rankings as before with those 100,000 scrapebox packages by just aiming the backlink blasts at your competitors and watch them drop off the listings like flies. Google shut one door and opened another.
Have quality content and build up your reputation and you won't have to work about link farms and the such.
Googles updates take time to kick in, depending on how your site is will have a bearing on how Panda and Penguin will affect you and how quickly, personally I think we have to give this at least two or even three PR updates to settle. Maybe by this time next year we will have a better idea of how it is actually working and affecting PR.
Google Penguin is a code name for a Google algorithm update that was first announced on April 24, 2012. The update is aimed at decreasing search engine rankings of websites that violate Google’s Webmaster Guidelines by using black-hat SEO techniques, such as keyword stuffing, cloaking, participating in link schemes, deliberate creation of duplicate content, and others.
Google Penguin is an over-optimising penalty that focuses on trying to stop low quality websites from appearing towards the top of search engine rankings. Google considers these sites as SPAM as they do not always offer the user with the information they’re after. At the same time, many higher quality sites have struggled to compete with poorer quality sites that successfully manipulate search results using unethical SEO tactics.
For SEO experts the new google penguin algorithm is the best think, because they have work to do in this hard times
