Does anybody know of any large forums running fluxbb? I am struggling to find any and I am considering using the software because it seems very light and compact.
If you are going to create forum in the thought of creating huge community then don't go for it. Btw it can also be used for mid range communities.
I haven't really heard of it until recently, but I read a lot of people said it was too simple or not good to use to appeal to members.
I haven't really used it, but if your aiming for a small community I'd say go for it. I've never really seen it used on large communities before though. Download it and test it out to see if it fit's your needs
You maybe better off with Punbb especially if your forum grows.....look at this, its a list of forum software comparsions both free and paid this site is using Punbb. http://www.forummatrix.org/ There are several good ones there and then there is the usual junk phpbb and others. FudForum is pretty good but your limited as far as customizing goes. I do not know what your plans are for using it but if your planning on starting the 9 millionth gaming forum or the 30th million general forum I would not use it. Hope this helps. Sidenote, if your going to use a free software use Mybb it's not much better than the rest but you have a heck of a lot more options!
Don't let others put you down if you decide to use FluxBB. FluxBB is perfectly capable of handling a large community, but I would still take caution of what you are doing (backup, keep a detailed "log book" of changes and features you did - including dates, etc...). My forum runs FluxBB and we are approaching 300,000 messages. I personaly do not like ANY of the forum softwares out there (yeah I'm a bit weird ), but overall I'm fairly pleased with FluxBB; its nothing fancy, but its fun to integrate into my website, love the CSS styling, and love how it doesn't have a tone of blote coding and useless features (ex: calendar). If it had profile commenting like Xenforo I would be even happier, but that will only happen when pigs fly. As you said, the forum is light and compact. If you do pick this software, be ready - some users are brainwashed and will not understand why there is no PM system (but note there is a PM plugin modification) and you have to use the perfectly suitable form email. They may have some other silly complaints. Most of my users do not complain, but my forum is more suited towards helping people and is less of an "enthusiasts" website; I guess I could say its more of a "professional" website. Another thing I could note is how difficult it will be to transfer from FluxBB to some other forum software; nobody really makes a converting script for FluxBB because frankly it isn't popular. I'm currently debating switching to XenForo software. Here are a couple large sites that run FluxBB (edit: I can't post links) backyardchickens com: has lots of styling, and some plugins... I would have almost thought it was "custom" if I didn't know bbs archlinux org: archlinux has over 1,000,000 posts! Oh, FluxBB is better than PunBB
Neither forum software is better than the other, the creators have made it to how they think it should be, Not you. So it's their opinion in the end, and you cannot say someones opinion on wrong, it's their decision.
I remember a forum I joined some time ago that used FluxBB. I think it was the official StopForumSpam support forum. I also remember it didn't look like much. If anything, it looked more like a really cheaply built Vbulletin or Xenforo forum. Probably not something I'd want to use on a live community.
