Well everybody I seem to talk to tells me they hate Simple Machines, I can't get my head around why though... It seems ok, definatly not as bad as people make out. Do you hate SMF? If so why?
I don't 'hate' it but I dislike using it myself, but I don't mind posting on forums who use it. No real reason, I'm just not fond of it.
I dislike the "white theme" I see at most SMF forums that looks like a bulletin board gone wrong. The forum software itself isn't bad,
The usability suckz, not an easy one to do. And the software itself has many files with which it is difficult to manage
I don't hate it but don't like it either. The design and options on it sucks. I can't do anything right on it. I never used the admin options but the normal user options suck on it.
I actually don't hate SMF in any way. Simple Machines forum software is very easy to use and manage. more so than MyBB. They give you the ability to install themes and modifications directly from the admin panel, which MyBB lacks. The only problem I have with SMF is that the back end is just the same theme as the forum. You really don't leave the forum at all to get into the admin panel. I rather have it like IPB, MyBB, and VB have it as it's own standalone panel. The last problem I have with the software is the quality of themes for it. You don't really find any good themes for SMF except for a few premium ones, as to all other forum software having tons of free good looking ones.
I don't hate it either, but I do find that the people who provide "support", such as it is, in the SMF Community could do with better manners and fewer brush-offs. I used to like the boardware until this last Gold release. They say it fixed "vulnerabilities" but they also made the thing inflexible, to. My old 2RC2 board does more stuff and has more stuff than the new version does. Even the 1.1.13 thru 15 is more flexible than 2.0.1.
Their slow development cycle. That's the only thing i hate. I used to hate its themes, but lately some people started developing some good theme for it, so its not a concern now.
I do not hate SMF, I have never used it on any of my forums so I have no reason to hate it but at the same time I do not care for it because it isn't a software I see myself using in the near future. It is the same with other software like Woltlab or FluxBB, You can't hate what you have never tried.
Can't argue with that. But I'd certainly like to look further in to xenForo now that I've seen it here. Does it do RSS feeds?
I installed SMF once in my localhost and I was about to puke when I saw the ACP so now I just keep my distance from SMF
I use SMF 2.0, I enjoy it a lot. More than MyBB, PhpBB and other free ones. I would choose SMF 2.0 over any other free software any day. Now as for paid, vBulletin (and maybe even XenForo) would be my choice
I wouldn't say I hate it but I don't like it. The design seems like it hasn't been updated since 2000 and there have just been a lot of internal problems there that slowed everything down. I was hoping 2.0 would get SMF caught up with the competition but it doesn't look like it has.
