I've watched so many people change forum software's just because it doesn't really work for their site, here's a few pointers. Make sure the CRUCIAL mods you need are available for that software. There's no point not bothering to look because you'll have to spend time converting later. Make sure you know how to use it because you don't want the permissions all wrong because that's a gateway for hackers and spammers. Make sure there is a theme you have ready for it, default themes aren't that big at the moment Make sure you're staff know how to use the software too. Make sure it's still being supported. Yes there's loads of scripts out there but I would rather have a forum on software which is getting updated with new features and security regularly than never. Make sure you try demo's if you choose to buy paid software. Good luck choosing the right software for you!
A brilliant little guide their Zinc. I've been thinking of purchasing some paid licenses sooner or later. I like having guidelines to look at to help my decision! May I also add that you may have to look at your niche as well? Like I think XF would be good for a General Chat forum or such.
The best thing you can do for your forum is to have a software decided and NOT change it. I have moved forums from phpBB to VB, from IPB to MyBB to VB, from MyBB to VB. I have lost A LOT OF TRAFFIC and ruined my internal links. So, choose wisely and do it from the start. Any change like this will destroy your SEO and no matter what redirects you have, messing up 50k+ links as I did with one of my forums is gonna hurt REALLY bad. And, if you still need to do it, follow these tips in the thread, they're excellent.
Very nice indeed Some tend to go for simplicity, but then later realizes that the one they choose doesn't have what they need... This forces them to had write things and that can be such a bother (I've never did it , but seen it happen) xD;
that's a good topic, but if you're lazy just like me, you can visite any website that you trust, and see wich software they use
