Oh noes!

You need 20 posts to be able to download resources, post links and other things. Read more...
  1. When a member joins for a few months and they still have 0 post counts do you delete their profile or do you keep them as a member?

I've been told by someone who has a huge website that it looks bad if you have a lot of members with 0 posts. However I haven't deleted someone yet for having 0 posts counts for months I'm starting to debate on it.

    What's your opinion?

I delete them after 4 months if they never logged in after day one or posted. makes the forum look better
  3. Yeah I must agree if you have a lot of members at 0 it'll just look messy and less attracting.

I don't delete members with zero posts. You never know what could have happened to prevent them from logging in or posting. Life is difficult, there are many reasons why a member may have 0 posts. I had one member on forum, he registered over a year ago. He didn't post once, and he only logged in on his first day on the forum. He later showed up about six months later, he had been real busy with college work. He ended up becoming an active member. If I would have deleted his account then, I know he could have just registered again, but that would be a bit annoying. Members take a minute out of their day and register because they have an interest in the forum. I see no reason to delete their account.

Yes but most 0 posting members happen to be spam.

We delete members who don't activate their account till 10 days. We don't have a deletion based on post count.

That's because, a spam registration will activate itself, if it need to post something on this forum. If it posts some spam, we will delete those spam and ban their account.
If its not planning to post anything, it wont bother to activate its account. So after 10 days, if it still doesn't activate its account, then its surely a spam. So, just delete it. This process is automated using "User Pruning" option in MyBB.
  7. Wow I just went on a site I moderate and I found out that there is over 1225 pages of users with 0 posts.. There is also 25-30 users on each page.. That's a lot of users..

That's false. Do you have proof to back that up? There are many real people who will register on a forum, and then don't post. I know this for a fact because I personally do it sometimes. It depends on the security of the forum as well whether most 0 posting members happen to be spam.

Hmm. I somewhat agree with you. But AssignmentA mentioned "most", so he obviously doesn't say every member with 0 posts are spam.

I give them six months as some come and sign up and forget the site and then stumble upon it as the word gets out more.

I am a member on heaps of sites where I have forgotten I was a member until I saw it advertised, went to sign up and it said my account already existed.

6 months time is enough for any user to return. And if they didn't return in that time, they will probably forget their login info too.

It does higher your User count but I think it would be best to delete them after a while.
  13. kavin AF Power User

Yeah! And i see some forum admins leaving spam registrations just that they can have high user count. They end up with a Forum having more users than posts.
  14. TheMightyEddy Member

yeah they may be bots or spammers. maybe even hackers!
  15. x86cam New Member

    delete them after 2 weeks
  16. kavin AF Power User

    Mostly Scammers than hackers.
  17. juststeven Call me El Stevo

Half of my members have 0 posts.
  18. MisaTange Member

You guys should email a member with 0 posts every month they don't have 0 posts. Post links to community topics.

And 1 out of 6 users (if you exclude my testing account) has more than 0 posts in my forum. Sweet!

If it got really out of hand and there was 200,000 members and 10,000 posts then I would do something about it but if it didn't pose a problem then I wouldn't really intervine.

The right way is to contact them and ask them about the reason for absense.
